Two years ago, we welcomed our son into the world. He was as cute as they come and we loved him more than is ever imagined possible. Adjusting to motherhood was and is an experience. The had our ups and downs, many sleepless nights, we made mistakes and learned from them.
Two years ago, I was given the most important job I could have ever been given. I became a mother to a child for whom I am responsible, who I love, who I plan on teaching to be a good human being.
So as I reflected on those past two years, which by the way, went by way too fast for me, I thought of the things I have experienced and learned along the way. Below is a compilation of some of those things. Being a mother comes with responsibilities, it does not come with directions. These are the things I learned:
1. I have more patience than I ever imagined

Below is a compilation of some of those things. Being a mother comes with responsibilities, it does not come with directions. These are the things I learned:
1. I have more patience than I ever imagined
2. Sleep is optional
3. It's really NOT about me
anymore
4. Wearing the same outfit
for days with a newborn at home is completely OK
5. Taking a nap while my
baby was sleeping was essential but not always possible
6. Spit up happens
7. So does poop
8. Diapers are never leak
proof enough
9. Watching my baby sleep is
the best entertainment in the world
10. Seeing my baby's smile makes
everything bad go away instantly
11. Boobs are for food
12. They're also a squishy squeezy
thing your little one will always find amusing
13. Caillou always saves the day
14. My little one's left overs are
sometimes all the dinner I will have
15. Routine is what we wish we
had...
16. Accepting that my house will
look like there are 6 kids here - except I have only one - and THAT'S OK
17. Going on a quick trip to the
store to get milk takes 30 minutes of prep when you have to go with an infant
18. Date nights will sometimes be
sitting in front of the TV and watching the reruns of Friends.
19. Always have an emergency work
outfit ready - See 6 & 7.
20. Walls should be made of
washable paint.
21. Walls should also be made of
material that does not chip when things get thrown at them
22. Expect to be embarrassed in
church at the most silent moment as your child starts the Jingle Bells tune
during the Sunday Easter Service
23. Warm meals are the thing of
the past. You eat last, you eat fast...
24. The house will never be
spotless and perfect. Invite your friends over and entertain.
25. Sometimes, Cheerios are
breakfast, lunch, dinner, and all snacks in between. They're a life saver.
